My Work

My name is John Rawson and I take commissions to build individually hand crafted model boats.

I have been buildng replica scale models of boats for several years and have developed a method of construction to produce individually hand crafted models to high levels of specification. The first models I produced were as a hobby which over a period of time and because of demand has now developed into a full time occupation.

All the work is carried out by myself in my small but efficient workshop based in Newark. The models are all produced from marine quality plywood using traditional methods of construction. The models are hand painted and water sealed. Sign writing and graphics are produced by myself, as are the ropes, fenders and all other associated components.

Each model is individually built and prices are available on request. To provide a quotation I need a photograph showing the full length of the boat to be replicated and close-ups of any unusual artwork or features.

My models have been featured on Carlton Television's 'Waterworld' on several occasions and they have been used by the BBC for the introduction sequence to the local news programmes.
